Gurugram Housing Complex Implements 'Artificial Rain' to Address Pollution
With air quality in Gurugram persistently in the "very poor" category, a residential complex has taken innovative steps to tackle pollution. DLF Primus, located in Sector 82, has introduced "artificial rain" by deploying sprinklers and water pipes originally intended for firefighting. This measure aims to reduce dust and particulate matter in the air.
A video captured on Thursday showcased water cascading from the top of the 32-storey towers in the complex. Achal Yadav, president of the resident welfare association (RWA), spoke to ANI about the initiative, emphasizing the need for community involvement to protect residents' health, especially children and senior citizens.
"Pollution is an escalating concern that cannot be managed solely by government efforts. Every resident in Gurugram needs to contribute," Yadav stated. "We are using the building's fire lines to create artificial rain from our 32-storey towers, which helps mitigate dust and airborne particles. Based on the AQI, we are prepared to implement this daily if needed."
In addition to the artificial rain, the complex has introduced carpooling services to reduce vehicle emissions for residents commuting to Cyber City, Delhi, and other locations. According to Yadav, residents from neighboring complexes are also participating in this carpooling effort.
Artificial rain, often associated with cloud seeding, typically involves dispersing substances such as silver iodide and dry ice into the atmosphere to encourage precipitation. This method has gained attention as authorities, including Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai, explore its potential for alleviating pollution.
The proactive measures taken by DLF Primus reflect an emerging trend of community-led initiatives to improve air quality in the region.
