CHICAGO — Stephanie Grisham, former White House press secretary under Donald Trump, is set to speak at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday. Grisham, who has transitioned from a role within the Trump administration to a vocal critic of the former president, will be among several Republicans addressing the convention to spotlight what they perceive as the dangers of Trump's extremism.

In an exclusive statement to NBC News, Grisham expressed her surprise at finding herself at a Democratic convention but emphasized her commitment to speaking out against Trump. “I never thought I’d be speaking at a Democratic convention. But, after seeing firsthand who Donald Trump really is, and the threat he poses to our country, I feel very strongly about speaking out,” Grisham said.

Grisham's journey from a press aide on Trump's 2016 campaign to chief of staff and press secretary for first lady Melania Trump, and later White House press secretary in 2019, marked a significant part of her career. She resigned from the administration shortly after the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack and has since cooperated with congressional investigations into the events of that day.

In her statement, Grisham acknowledged her disagreements with Vice President Kamala Harris but endorsed her candidacy, stating, “While I don’t agree with Vice President Harris on everything, I am proud to be supporting her because I know she will defend our freedoms and represent our nation with honesty and integrity.”

The Democratic campaign has actively recruited Republican voices to endorse Vice President Harris and denounce Trump’s extremism. Grisham is expected to urge her fellow Republicans to support Harris and work to prevent Trump's return to the White House.

Additionally, former Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, another Republican critic of Trump, is scheduled to speak at the convention on Thursday. The Harris campaign's strategy includes featuring patriotic Republicans to appeal to moderate and independent voters and countering Trump's influence.

The Harris campaign has also launched the “Republicans for Harris” program to attract voters who may have previously supported Trump but now seek a change. They are emphasizing the dangers outlined in Project 2025, a conservative think tank's blueprint for Trump's potential second term, which Trump and his allies have recently attempted to distance themselves from.

With only 80 days remaining in the campaign, the Harris team is working diligently to secure additional Republican support and engage swing-state voters through various outreach and media efforts.
