Gujarat Health Minister Rushikesh Patel reassures the public, stating that Chandipura virus, first identified in Maharashtra in 1965, is not a novel virus but recurs annually in Gujarat. He emphasizes vigilance but advises against undue panic.
Symptoms and Recent Cases of Chandipura Virus
Symptoms of Chandipura virus include fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and headaches, particularly affecting children aged 9 months to 14 years in rural areas. Immediate medical attention is recommended upon symptom onset.

Current Status and Prevention Efforts in Gujarat

Over 400 households and 19,000 individuals have undergone screening for precautionary measures against Chandipura virus. It is crucial to note that the virus is not contagious, emphasizing vector control and public awareness for effective prevention.
