BJP Accuses US State Department of Involvement in "Deep State" Targeting India

New Delhi, India – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the ruling party in India, has made a bold accusation, claiming that the US State Department is behind efforts to "destabilize" India. The party further alleged that the "deep state" in the United States is actively working to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi and undermine India’s growth.

At a press conference on Thursday, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra leveled serious charges, stating, “It has always been the US State Department behind this agenda.” According to the BJP, the US deep state is allegedly in collusion with opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and certain journalists, working together to harm India’s progress with unsubstantiated claims and misleading reports.

Patra criticized Gandhi for relying on reports by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), which he claimed have targeted the Adani Group and its alleged links to the Modi government. He dismissed these reports as "baseless" and without evidence, further asserting that OCCRP’s funding sources were indicative of a larger conspiracy against India.

A report by a French media outlet revealed that OCCRP receives substantial funding from the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and other figures associated with the US deep state, including billionaire George Soros. Patra argued that OCCRP had been used as a media tool to advance an agenda to destabilize India, with the US State Department playing a central role in this alleged plot.

The BJP spokesperson continued to attack Gandhi, calling him a "traitor of the highest order," and accused US agencies and Soros of conspiring to undermine India. Patra's allegations were echoed in Parliament by BJP member Nishikant Dubey, who accused the Congress party of conspiring with foreign forces to destabilize the Modi government due to their "hatred" of the Prime Minister.

Dubey also demanded an investigation into Gandhi’s meetings with controversial figures like Soros and US lawmakers such as Ilhan Omar, who have been vocal critics of Modi and his administration. He called on the Congress to explain what transpired during Gandhi's foreign tours, particularly those involving individuals with a history of opposing India.

Congress Reacts Sharply

The BJP’s accusations drew a sharp response from the Congress party. MP Shashi Tharoor condemned the remarks, calling them "the most unfortunate incident." Tharoor criticized the BJP for attacking individuals without evidence, violating parliamentary privilege, and making defamatory statements. He also objected to the unsubstantiated nature of the charges, demanding an apology from Dubey.

In response to the allegations, OCCRP clarified that while it does receive some funding from the US government, it is an independent media organization with no political affiliations. The group emphasized that the US government has no influence over its editorial processes or reporting.

This controversy highlights the growing tensions in Indian politics and the complex intersection of international diplomacy, media, and domestic political dynamics. The BJP’s accusations against the US State Department and its involvement in domestic affairs have sparked intense political debate, with both sides accusing each other of foreign interference. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how the allegations will impact India’s political landscape.
